About Dr. Jamie

Dr. Jamie-Lea Whyte

MBBS, FRACGP, BSc.

Medical Doctor – General Practitioner – Business Owner

Mother & Wife

Dr. Jamie-Lea Whyte is a born-and-bred local Gold Coaster having completed her MBBS post-graduate medical degree at Griffith University in 2010. From there she took north to Townsville for her Internship and Junior Residency years and welcomed the new exposure to Indigenous health and tropical medicine.

With a love for family medicine, she returned back to South East Queensland to embark on General Practice training with GPTQ. Up until recent times, she remained working at a local family practice for almost 7 years. Soon after obtaining her GP fellowship in 2018, Dr. Jamie created a company called VirtueVax servicing local businesses with mobile vaccinations. The idea was borne about after becoming frustrated with the lack of uptake of flu shots in her practice by childcare staff.

Creating Virtuevax also gave her an appetite for the world of business, marketing, and entrepreneurship that medicine had not yet offered.

Dr. Jamie took up a position with The Varicose Vein Clinic offered to her by way of her many vocational trials after serving her General Practice patients over the previous years. She has appreciated learning a new skill-set by way of treating spider and varicose veins, along with the change in patient dynamic and pace. She works alongside the renowned and well-loved Dr. Paul Davis who is an exceptional mentor to her in this field. The Varicose Vein Clinic is the centre of excellence for the non-surgical treatment of varicose and spider veins.

Dr. Jamie also relishes the ability to master a niche in medicine that allows her to become among the best in this field through dedicated time and focus. After a day of ultrasounds and sclerotherapy she loves coming home to her husband and three children.

Dr. Jamie also attends education events, and has been invited on occasion to speak at events around Women in medicine, Creative Careers in Medicine and other various topics. She has intentionally forged a career that works for both herself and family despite reaching a few challenging crossroads along the way.

Occasionally she suits up as a ‘quasi-social-triathlete’ with her girlfriends -provided the event destination serves delicious cocktails.

I really love what I do!

I have made the life I want to have for my family and self.
